Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in Orthopedics which is used to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint. The word arthroscopy comes from two Greek words, “arthro” which means “joint” and “skopein” which means to “look”. It means “to look within the joint.”

Joint replacement surgery is removing a damaged joint and putting in a new one. A joint is where two or more bones come together, like the knee, hip, and shoulder. The surgery is usually done by a doctor called an orthopaedic (or-tho-PEE-dik) surgeon.

Degenerative Joint Disease or Osteoarthritis is a painful condition which usually affects the knees, hips, hand joints and other joints. It usually occurs due to aging and when the joints are injured due to repeated use. Normally joints consist of a thick, rubbery tissue called cartilage that acts as a cushion between the bones. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage wears away leaving the bones to rub against each other.

A medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes, or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D.

It literally means porous bones. It is a systemic disease where density and quality of bones are reduced.

Bones become thin and loose their strength which can lead to pain, fractures and decreased everyday activities.

It is also called a silent disease, as it does not have its own symptoms. Mostly it manifests after a fracture.
